Quick response to emails
Totally a very good presentation. Itesm perfect, communication perfect. Shipping contractors could be improved, especially the costs. No country i ever recived from has higher shipping costs

HORRIBLE
WORST AUCTION EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD AND I REPRESENT CLIENTS FOR A LIVING. WHEN I FINALLY RECIEVED MY INVOICE FOR A SMALL $400 ITEM IT DID NOT INCLUDE ANY WAY TO PAY BY CREDIT CARD. i AKED IN FOUR SEPARATE EMAIL TO PROVIDE ME WITH A MEANS TO PAY. EACH TIME I GOT A PEPLY "YOUR REQUEST IS UNDER REVIEW" UNDER REVIEW FOR WHATT!!!!!??? I'M JUST TRYING TO PAY YOU!!!! IN YOUR INVOICE YOU SAID YOUR PREFERED METHOD OF PAYMENT IS A BANK TRANSFER, WELL GUESS WHAT ITS NOT MINE! BUT I DID FINALLY SUCCUMB AFTER YOU STARTED SAYING I WAS DELINQUINT IN PAYMENT EVEN THOUGH I'D BEE TRYING TO PAY FOR THREE WEEKS. THE BANK TRANSFER COST ME $30. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE THE INFORMATION YOU NEEDED TO SHIP THIS $400 ITEM YOU WOULD THINK WE WERE SHIPPING THE CROWN JEWELS. Very challenging process-particularly for a first time client.
The process between LiveAuctioneers and Bonham's is not particularly smooth. It took many steps to be approved even to pay them online. Not ideal. The customer service was very kind-it just took many calls and emails. It required dedicated work.

Great Pre-sales Help. After That, Things Get Messy. But the Item Is Excellent
Had a complicated last-minute question about an item and got a spectacularly thorough response from a Bonhams representative by email. But once the item was one, everything got much more complicated. You have to upload a copy of your driver's license or other government ID in order to have your item released for shipping. Wasn't happy about doing it, but once I tried, I ran up against technical problems that took a while to resolve. And then there was paying for the item-a none-too-simple process heavily weighted toward bank transfers. Once I got the item, I realized they hadn't actually transferred a tiny piece of it to the shipping company. So now I'll be waiting weeks ?) while they do that. Still, the item itself is excellent and I'm very glad to have it.

Payment demands sending DL or passport that can be easily stolen
Payment is painful. I had to send a copy of my DL (passport copy could have been used) to be able to pay. I'm not an amateur bidder and NO ONE ELSE demands this. I'm supposed to trust this nebulous auction house with lots of offices, many unvetted people? I asked why my birthdate was essential for giving Bonhams my cc number. They said it was to protect against fraudulent buyers. There is no protection against their fraudulent descriptions of material. In the same auction, I bid on an auction item that I knew exactly what was, have studied in museums and collections. Bonhams Native American expert had the wrong area of the country and certainly the wrong tribal affiliation even though the beadwork on the piece was a dead give-away. I hope I remember that I don't want to bid through Bonhams again and urge you not to also unless you really, really want something. And then, you better know your material.

Description not accurate for the listing
5 of the 7 pieces in the lot I purchased had some issues with firing defects or damage through prior use. These issues were not described or pictured in the listing. The dimensions of the pieces was not accurate, and off up to 1.5 "on some of the pieces. Will not be purchasing from Bonhams in the future.

Lot descriptions are bare bones and may hide obvious problems with the lot.
I bid online since I am out of state and won an item that had only 1 photo. I read the description and thought it was clear what I was bidding on. When I received the item it was clear there was a rather poor restoration job done to the neck of the pot and that the handle had been broken and reglued. I checked the description again and there was clearly no attempt to disclose any defects to the pot. I hunted through their website and found deep in their website (seriously it took 7 clicks down the rabbit trail to get to it) on page 4 of their 5 page "Conditions of Sale" that a condition report may be available prior to the sale. Internet bidders be forewarned! This auction house will not tell you up front that there may be problems with what you are bidding on. You have to specifically request information. I've had more information provided by amateurs selling on ebay than I got from this professional auction house that has been in businees long enough to know better. Providing customers with ample information to make smart bidding decisions is not in their interest. This was my first interaction with them and it is definitely my last. I can in no way deal with such an auction house as this.

condition of item mis-represented
I recieved a large sampler from bonhams. The frame was in terrible condition & it will be expensive to repair. I don't know if it was slick photography or if the frame was photo shopped to look better to sell. I am very disappointed in Bonhams-K. Gauntlet

Many mistakes and many difficulties! this is an extremely usual experience for me in this deal. Poor internal organization and communication
Having no invoice 1 week after the purchase, I have had to claim for it. 1 week after I have payed and sent my Identity document, I have been claimed the payment again, then my identity document again. I sent the ID again, and they asked it a 3rd time 2 weeks later. As the invoice was in £ and my payment in ��, there was a shortfall. It was only after I have asked (no feedback 1 month after the purchase) that they informed me that there was this shortfall. After I payed it, they asked for it again 1 week later. It seems that the employees do not communicate with each other on customers files.

Extremely High Shipping, Poor customer service
I participate in several live auctions a month on Live Auctioneers. A while back I saw some items on the Bonhams site, and decided to bid. I called Bonhams about shipping and was assured that the lots I was interested in could be shipped in house. I won one item for $200 and was told by Bonhams it would be $117.00 to ship the item from New York to Ohio. Keep in mind the item weighs less than 2 pounds packed. I called them and mentioned I work for an auction house and am well aware of shipping costs. I was told they would look into it and see about getting a better rate. Today I was contacted again about paying my invoice. Dereck said that shipping was a completely different matter and the invoice had to be paid. I reiterated my previous conversations stating that I would pay with a fair shipping rate. He then said he would cancel the transaction and ban me from Bonhams. Thats fine, because I hadn't planned on dealing with their company going forward. I've bought 100's of lots on Live auctioneers, and this is my first open invoice. In addition, it is the first negative review I have given. I wish I would have looked at their feedback before I bid.

Paying was hard work
Bonhams posted only 1 photo. That makes online buying more of a gamble and does not serve their seller for long distance buyers. My huge problem was payment. The process was impossible online. The number of emails and people involved to merely pay was enough that I will never buy there again. The amount of premium should ensure working online payment procedure. Not worth the aggravation to buy here ever again, I don't care what it is.

Wonderful Auction House!
Due to health issues I was having d to contact after the auction and they closed for a week during the holidays. They called me after new years and were very understanding of my lack of communication. They were so helpful and let me take care of everything in the single phone call. They have my highest recommendation!
