Description

British Boer War Queens South Africa medal Welsh Regiment, with three clasps Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg and Driefontein. Medal awarded to ‘5165 DMR: G. PRICE WELSH REGT’. Ghost dates to the reverse. Medal and clasps confirmed on the roll of the 1st Battalion, he is also entitled to the Transvaal clasp and the Kings South Africa medal with 2 clasps. George Price, from Birmingham, attested for service in the Welch Regiment on 4th February 1897. He served in South Africa between 4th November 1899 and 7th March 1902 and was appointed Drummer on 7th July 1902. Following his service in South Africa he was sent to India before returning to South Africa in October 1906. He was promoted to Corporal on 5th December 1907 but was reduce to the ranks on 21st November 1909 having been tried at a Regimental Cout Martial for breaking out of barracks. He was discharged on 20th December 1909 having served a total of 12 years and 318 days.
