18th Century Brass Ember Tongs Pipe Lighter

A Lovely antique, used to get embers from the fire to light a pipe, about 10 inches

a great rare item, said to be used in taverns, hung from the mantle they were used to get an ember from the fire to light a pipe. Schiffer's Brass book dates these to the 18th century, about 8 inches

late 18th/early 19th century, hand forged ember or pipe tongs, 15 x 3-1/2 in. Note: From the Estate of Stephen Howard Asrican, a longtime member of The Rushlight Club.

They appear to be 18th -C having penny size terminals and a pierced thimb disc handle. Very elegant in style, well made and light weight, 17-1/4" overall.
