Description
Sir Peter Lely (Dutch, 1618-1680) attributed portrait of a lady, oil on canvas, the sitter depicted in lavish attire in burnt orange and blues and surrounded by flowers, bearing artist's plaque to bottom of frame: "Sir Peter Lely, 1617-1680)", bearing wax seal impressed with marks from Galerie Sedelmeyer (Paris). Charles Sedelmeyer (1837-1925) operated his gallery between 1884 and 1916 and specialized in old masters. He became a trusted art advisor to collectors like Maurice Kahn and J. Pierpont Morgan. Image: 49.25" H x 40" W; frame: 60" H x 50.5" W. Craquelure throughout, area of repair visible to reverse. Removed from a 1001 Park Avenue estate where it had hung for three generations; ex Galerie Sedelmeyer. See Peter Harrison Fine Art for an example of a Lely with Galerie Sedelmeyer provenance.
