32" x 47" sheet, 39" x 53 1/2" framed.
Bloomsbury, 2008 - $5,400.
Prepared for Des Barres' monumental sea-atlas of the Americas, the Atlantic Neptune, this is one of the few land maps to appear in the sequence; it is a map of the upper reaches of the Delaware River, centred on Philadelphia. The map has the feeling of being incomplete - the water courses are marked and labelled, and the town, the land grants around Philadelphia, while marked are not labelled, suggesting that the survey was cut short by the exigencies of the Revolutionary War, and this may explain its comparative scarcity.
