Description
A mid 19th century English needlework sampler. Attributed to a former student at a London orphan school called the "Raines Asylum". Multi-color silk embroidery on linen, depicting florals and birds with geometric designs and "Remember Now Thy Creator in the Days of Thy Youth" biblical verse. Some discoloration and minor damage, nails and stitching panel visible at right, not examined out of frame. Sampler is 7 x 7 1/2" high, in a period frame with joint separation, 10 x 10 1/2" high overall. ESTIMATE $200-400
