Spectacular large-format uncased tintype photograph of a group of armed men and their wagon. The subjects seems determined to protect their cargo at all costs, displaying an array of handguns, rifles, and double-barreled shotguns. Likely taken from an upper window of a photo gallery, a building across the street features a painted sign that reads in part “Boots, Shoes.”

While the exact location where this photograph was struck is unknown, it was almost certainly taken in a western town, where travel between outposts was potentially a deadly proposition. Whatever these men were tasked with, they seemed primed to get it done.
