Description
This antique biblical map of the Holy Land, created by N. Visscher circa 1657, originates from a Dutch Bible and offers a depiction of the ancient Holy Land. Notably, the map is oriented north to the right, providing a unique perspective. The map focuses on the exodus from Egypt and showcases ships in both the Mediterranean and Red Seas. Decorative elements abound, including depictions of Jonah and the whale in the sea, the menorah from the temple, a plan of the temple, the Ark of the Covenant, and figures such as Aaron and Moses, with Moses holding the Ten Commandments. Additionally, a shekel and another coin adorn the map, adding to its historical richness. Hand-colored and copperplate engraved, this map measures 19" x 12 1/2" and is presented in overall good condition, with minor center fold separation repaired and minor foxing on the margins. Authenticity is guaranteed.
