Tsesarevich Alexis Nikolaevich & Prince Nikita Alexandrovich: A Group of Six Religious Books Various dates Comprising: a prayer book with an interior note in the handwriting of Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna stating that the book had belonged to Tsesarevich Alexis Nikolaevich in the Alexander Palace; a prayer book inscribed to Prince Nikita from his father Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich; a copy of St John of Kronstadt's "My Life in Christ"; and a 1936 prayer book dedicated to "Alexander" from .... PROVENANCE: Tsesarevich Alexei Nikolaevich; Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna; Prince Nikita Alexandrovich; Prince Alexander Nikitch Romanoff; Princess Maria Romanoff. Perhaps the most interesting books here are a copy of the New Testament and a Psalter with a note in the hand of Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna indicating that the book belonged to the Heir-Tsesarevich Alexis Nikolaevich at the Alexander Palace. Another prayer book appears to have been given to Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich, or his son, Prince Alexander Romanoff. This group of spiritual books are emblematic of the types of spiritual literature common to all Orthodox faithful. The "Life In Christ" by St. John of Kronstadt is of interest, as St. John was summoned to the deathbed of Alexander III and was well know to the members of the Imperial Family until his death in 1908.
