[MEDALLION]. [NELSON, Lord Horatio (1758-1805), subject]. [DAVISON, Alexander (1750-1829), association]. “Rear Admiral Lord Nelson of the Nile” Battle of the Nile Medallion. [England, 1798]. Gilt-finished copper medallion with Victory holding a shield with Nelson’s likeness (“Europe’s Hope and Britain’s Glory”) on recto, and Nelson’s battle fleet captioned “Almighty God Has Blessed His Majesty’s Arms / Victory of the Nile August 1, 1798” on verso. On the edge of the medallion is engraved, “From Alexr Davison Esqr. St. James’s Square = a Tribute of Regard.” Approximately 1 ¾” in diameter. Tarnished, soiled, rubbed. Very good.
