Description
[NELSON, Lord Horatio (1758-1805), subject]. Original Engraved Pass to Nelson’s Funeral, with Manuscript Notes. [England, 1805-1806]. A rare admission ticket (by invitation only) to Lord Nelson's Funeral Procession from the Admiralty to St. Paul's Cathedral on January 9th, 1806, elaborately engraved. Sight approximately 6 ¾ x 7 ½”. The artifact is superbly framed, with black matting, gold filet and gilt wood. Frame size approximately 13 ⅓ x 14 ¼”. It was issued to Mr. Thomas Gill Jackson, Midshipman, who undoubtedly served under Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar, and is signed by Sir Isaac Heard, Garter King of Arms, and stamped sealed in black wax. Mild wear to wax seal, one small area of frame lightly chipped, else fine. The few examples remaining are signed by Sir Isaac as arrangements were handled by Garter King of Arms and the College of Heralds. The pass is numbered either No. 325 or No. 328.
