Description
[BRITISH CAVALRY]. British Officer’s Sabretache, 10th (Prince of Wales) Hussars. [England, ca. 1830s-40s]. An incredibly rare officer’s sabretache from the 10th Hussars. The silver and gilt bullion décor above the royal cipher displays the heraldic device of The Prince of Wales, three feather plumes with the words “Ich Dien” (“I Serve”) and below the cipher, the battle honors of Waterloo and the Peninsular War (“Peninsula” and “Waterloo”). With original red leather backing and satchel. Approximately 13 ½ x 11 ½”. Some age-toning, occasional minor wear, neat ink notation on verso of cipher (“R. P. S. 10 Hussars”), small neat label on satchel cover. Fine. Although almost 200 years old, it is in fine condition, including the leather backing which remains supple. A highly sought-after and rarely encountered artifact, especially in this condition.
