"Hardcore" stoneware at its finest, this somewhat recently coined term for utilitarian stoneware that isn't all fancily decorated, but has wonderful primitive appeal. Both of these pieces exhibit that make-do philosophy of the mid-19th century, despite their defects, they were both saved & remained in use. Both should have gone into the waster pile at the stoneware factories where they were formed, but instead were saved & loved for over 150 plus years. Wonderful glazing, slumped & misshapen mouths, jar standing 10" & ovoid is 16.5" in height. The ovoid has two impressed marks on the shoulder.
