"The Peterkin Papers" by Lucretia P. Hale, illustrated by an anonymous artist, facsimile reproduction of the edition published in 1898 by The Houghton, Mifflin & Company, Boston & New York, by University Microfilms, Inc. Ann Arbor, 1966.
Hard boards, original beige cloth with blue & gold decorations and lettering on front board and spine [some soiling]; 6 1/2" x 8 1/2"; blue endpapers, "James & Betsey Kello / April 1974" is ink written inside cover, 219 pages, many illustrations, very good condition.
A collection of humorous short stories about fictional Peterkin family. The family consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Peterkin and their children Elizabeth Eliza, Soloman John, Agamemnon,[6] plus three unnamed little boys. They lived near Boston, and encountered difficulties due to their "scatterbrained naivete and were rescued from disaster in each case by the commonsensical Lady from Philadelphia."
The first Peterkin story, "The Lady Who Put Salt in Her Coffee", was published in the April 1868 issue of the children’s magazine Our Young Folks. Other stories in the series originally appeared in issues of Our Young Folks, until the periodical ceased publication in 1873. Later Peterkin stories were published in St. Nicholas Magazine
