Description
During WWII, the need for American troops superceded the traditional draft conscripts. Congress passed special legislation to allow women to serve in four units: the Women's Army Corps (WAC), the Navy Women's Reserve (WAVES), the Marine Corps Women's Reserve, and the Coast Guard Women Reserves (SPARS).
This well-illustrated poster highlights a brave woman representing the SPARS, the Coast Guard's branch of female service. The program was groundbreaking and paved the way for women to serve in the military in peacetime.
