Description
ERFURT P.08 LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH SCAN OF CAPTURE PAPERWORK. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 8131t. Bbl. 3 15/16". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Erfurt in 1918 and retained under the Treaty of Versailles in 1920. The top of the bbl. extension is marked "1920/ 1918", with an interesting triad of proofs marked on the right consisting of a small Reichswehr eagle proof (repeated on bbl. and breechblock), followed by a Crown/RC (Revision Commission) proof above a sole crowned Erfurt inspector proof. This combination of proofs (and lack of 2 additional crowned Imperial proofs) indicates that the bbl. extension was originally mfg. by Erfurt in 1918 as a spare, retained after the war, and used to rebuild this example during the 1930s. The front grip strap is Reichwehr unit marked "12./ J.R.5.47." indicating issue to 12th Infantry Regiment, 5th Company, Rack # 47. Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with some small parts exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl, extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, rear toggle pin, as well as the grips, with some parts appearing to have been renumbered to match, likely at the time of arsenal rebuild. MAGS: 1 non-matching 8-rd. with wood plug. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a scan of the original capture paperwork (original not included) listing this pistol by S#, dated March of 1946. CONDITION: metal components retain good to large amounts of their period arsenal rust blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning fading to gray patina, with scattered spots of light surface oxidation, as well as scattered spots/patches of light to mild pitting overall. Strawed parts have mostly faded to a gray patina, with light pitting. Bore is bright, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show consistent smoothing, some superficial handling marks, as well as a large impression on the left panel, but otherwise remain sound. (25-6050/MLW). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
