Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). S# 287364B. Bbl 20" carbine style. Fixed front sight with Express rear sight; missing the folding blade. Full length mag. Action has saddle ring on left side. Band fastened forearm and straight grip walnut stock with steel trapdoor carbine buttplate. Forearm and stock have extensive large brass tack ornamentation with leather wrapping around wrist and comb area. Tack ornamentation is often associated with Native American use. Mfg. 1888. CONDITION: metal has faded brown appearance showing heavy wear and general pitting. Dust cover and lever latch are removed. Forearm shows heavy wear with a crack and bottom of the tip. Stock is missing large chips along both sides of top tang with a long crack extending into the butt portion. Some tacks are missing. Stock has general scratches, marks and dents. Worn action has a light trigger pull that is unsafe. Dark pitted bore. (01-28187/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
