Cal. 70. S# NSN. The 44" octagon to round barrel is stamped with early proofs and maker's marks on rear top flat. Match lock with lever actuated pivoting dog has pan set on top of relief decoration of a two headed eagle. More maker's marks are stamped on plate which match those on barrel. Full length stock made of beech has sculpted comb and wood patchbox on right side of butt. CONDITION: good. Metal shows heavy cleaning to remove all pits and is currently a golden color due to hardened oil. Stock shows old oil finish and considerable worm damage in butt with losses at toe. Pins that attach stock to barrel are missing. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (01-27570/MGM). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
