Description
19th century boxwood and lacquer netsuke of a standing man laughing with his mouth wide open, and with a mokugyo (wooden Buddhist gong) hanging on his chest. The figure probably represents a lay person on a Buddhist pilgrimage. Very well carved, expert use of lacquer, very pleasant patina. Height 2.18 inches.
