Provenance: collection of Gus Turbeville, President of Coker College, Hartsville, SC, a well-known collector of cartoon art.
Originating in 1921, this was the first black cartoon for black newspapers, drawn by Leslie Rogers.The last version was by Defender staff artist Chester Commodore. He continued it as a gag vehicle until 1964, when it ended. By then, after 44 years, it had become the all-time longest-tenured comic strip in a black newspaper.
