Restocked Continental Flintlock Musket
.79 caliber. 47" three stage pinned round barrel. NSN. Heavily oxidized metal, brass furniture, stretched hardwood stock. Restocked single shot muzzleloading flintlock musket. 6.5" flat faceted banana lock with lightly engraved tail is marked PONSIN or possibly RONSIN, neither of which appear as gunmaker names in Stockel. Lock remains in original flint with a detachable faceted and fenced unbridled iron pan and a flat swan neck cock. The lock appears to be of Germanic or Low Countries origin. Barrel appears to be of indeterminate European origin. The furniture is a mix of brass items that do not match in form and are likely from different arms. The buttplate may be of more recent vintage than most of the other parts. The restocking is done in a workman-like fashion combining the lock, barrel and furniture from at least two or more guns into a single piece. A crude period repair is present at the wrist. Includes an unrelated iron ramrod with brass tip. {ANTIQUE}
