
MOUSTOXYDIS ANDREAS: (1785-1860) Greek Historian and Philologist. Appointed director of education 1820-1831 by Greek President Ioannis Kapodistrias. Moustoxydis published works based on Isocrates´ manuscripts that he discovered as well as `Illustrazioni Corciresi´ about the history of Corfu, where he was from. A fine A.L.S., `Mustoxidis´, one page, 8vo, London, 23rd August 1839, to Gian B. Niccolini, to Milan, in Italian. A cleanly written letter, Moustoxydis stating in part `Let me tell Madame Norton and Mr. Sheridan about their uncle, who he is… it would be a crime of literature injures to tell you who these people are in the Republic, on which you sit like main Gods, and me a small half-god. But what I may tell you is that they love Italy…´ With blank integral leaf. VG
