Description
(1902 - 1975) Gauleiter of Tyrol who first suggested the creation of an Alpine 'fortress' as the war wound down as Nazi Germany's last bastion. Hitler approved the idea 18 days before his suicide. Candid postcard photograph of Hofer showing him full length and in uniform, dated Sep. 4, 1933 at bottom. On the verso, a calligrapher penned an inscription on Oct. 9, 1933, untranslated but patriotic and mentioning the 'Fatherland', beneath which Hofer has applied his signature. Fine.
