(1901-1949) SS-Gruppenfuhrer and the Governor of the District of Krakow in occupied Poland, and in 1944, he was appointed as head of the German Military Administration in the puppet state of the Republic of Salo in Italy. In 1940, 68,000 Jews were expelled from Krakow, and in 1941, the Krakow Ghetto was created for the remaining 15,000 Jews by his decrees. Most of these Jews died as a result of Operation Reinhard. Wachter also organized the Waffen-SS Galizien, later the First Division of the Ukrainian National Army. In 1949, Wachter was given refuge by pro-Nazi Austrian bishop Alois Hudal in the Vatican where he died the same year. War-date typed D.S. 1p. legal folio, Vienna, July 11, 1938, to SA Standartdenfuhrer Ferdinand Kohler, head of the ‘Mediation Center in the Office of the Reich Governor’, relative to the disposition of vacant positions, presumably connected to the Anschluss three months earlier. Very boldly signed at conclusion, and initialed by a number of other individuals at bottom left. File holes and a rusted paperclip impression at top margin, else very good.
