
Description
(1901-1949) SS-Gruppenfuhrer and the Governor of the District of Krakow in occupied Poland, and in 1944, he was appointed as head of the German Military Administration in the puppet state of the Republic of Salo in Italy. In 1940, 68,000 Jews were expelled from Krakow, and in 1941, the Krakow Ghetto was created for the remaining 15,000 Jews by his decrees. Most of these Jews died as a result of Operation Reinhard. Wachter also organized the Waffen-SS Galizien, later the First Division of the Ukrainian National Army. In 1949, Wachter was given refuge by pro-Nazi Austrian bishop Alois Hudal in the Vatican where he died the same year. Fine content typed D.S. signed with initials, 1p. legal folio, Munich, Feb. 22, 1941 on NSKK letterhead from the Staatskommissar Pauc to Wachter, concerning the ‘District Court of Vienna’s decision regarding the punishment and sentencing of one Rudolf Glanzer. Annotated at initialed at top by Wachter, who adds ‘28.II’. File holes at left, else very good.
