(1806 - 1863) Confederate Secretary of War and brigadier general who transferred arms to the South prior to the war, later fled Ft. Donelson prior to the battle there. A.L.S., 1p. 4to., Richmond, Nov. 15, 1851 to banker 'W. H. Macfarland'. Floyd asks that if an accommodation asked for a 'Mr. Preston' had been made, then he would like a certificate of deposit for $110 be issued to himself for Preston to be sent to the man the same day. A few stray old glue spots away from text, else very good.
