Gilt Bronze Statue of Happy Buddha, height 58cm, length 41cm, width 28cm. A Vajrayana deity statue from Tibetan Buddhist (or Nepalese) temples of the 14th–16th centuries. Cast in copper (Lima copper), fully gilded and inlaid with turquoise, rubies, and other gemstones. Made via lost-wax casting; the main deity embraces his consort, with an ornate crown, smooth garment lines, and gemstone inlays, solemn and magnificent. 14th–16th centuries (pre-Ming). A fine example of Sino-Nepalese Buddhist art, of core value for researching Tibetan Buddhist Vajrayana sculpture and metalworking techniques of the 14th–16th centuries.
