One retains the original verso inscription reading "Initiates - Preparing for the Enemy - Red", dated June 30, 2002, identifying the theme of the work. Each measures 18" x 16" framed.Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Mitchell Melson Jr. was a self-taught artist known for imaginative assemblage works made from recycled materials gathered from flea markets and yard sales. He founded UTRIBE, an artistic philosophy connecting past traditions with modern materials. His works have been exhibited in Chicago galleries and are represented in collections associated with Northwestern University.
