19c netsuke MONKEY & WASP

Description

19th century boxwood netsuke of seated monkey desperately trying to get rid of a wasp that landed on its back. Very nice - see its distressed facial expression, fine hairwork, eyes are inlaid with horn, gold lacquering to the wasp. Himotoshi (cord hole) is formed by a natural opening between its left leg and arm. Old repair to the right side of its nose. Excellent warm brown staining, beautiful patina. Height 1.45 inches.
