ca. 1870, 84 x 62 cm, South Sweden, Skane, Torna or Bara District

The face of a chair cushion. Wool embroidery in the cross stitch technique on a linen foundation. The green field is covered in a massive red diamond lattice with quatrefoil blossoms placed on the points of intersection. Each diamond contains an eight-petalled flower in blue and red. The clearly structured design of abstract appearance has great visual appeal.

Condition

Sewn onto linen and stretched over a wooden frame. In very good overall condition.
