Description
first half 19th century, 72 x 107 cm, Central Asia, West Turkestan
RIPPON BOSWELL, A 47, 24 May 1997, lot 139
A Tekke chuval of outstanding quality featuring three complete Salor guls and six that are overlaid and halved by the border. The secondary guls and the design of the narrow main border also hark back to Salor models. The elem design of thirteen trees with slender trunks and feathered leaves is a characteristic Tekke feature. The light colours include apricot, yellow and green. Small details are woven in ruby silk. Very fine weave on a depressed foundation, leathery handle.
