Description
C. 1800s. A fine underhammer percussion gun cane, featuring a large rosewood “L”-shaped handle, the terminal carved with a bold sunburst motif. The top of the handle retains a metal fitting that once accommodated a detachable shoulder stock, now absent. A silver shield is inset into the handle, bearing faint, worn traces of a former owner’s name or initials. An underhammer trigger is positioned along the shaft; when cocked, it allows for placement of a percussion cap on the nipple. The trigger retains strong spring tension and functions well. The all-metal shaft unscrews just below the trigger, allowing for loading of powder, wadding, and a ball projectile. The cane has occasional surface scratching, natural age patina, and a missing ferrule. Length: 35". Condition: (Very Good). Dimensions: Length: 35".
