The typescript document is addressed to the Governor of HM Prison Wormwood Scrubs and is a remission document relating to Thomas Burke who, on 14th November 1941, had been ´convicted of an offence against section 4(2) of the National Service Act, 1941, and sentenced to imprisonment for twelve months´, and stating ´Now know ye that We in consideration of some circumstances humbly represented unto US, are Graciously pleased to extend Our Grace and Mercy unto the said Thomas Burke and to pardon and remit unto him the remainder of the sentence imposed ipon him....´. Countersigned at the foot by Herbert Morrison (1888-1965) British politician who served as Home Secretary and Minister of Home Security 1940-45 during World War II.
