RUSHMER FREDERICK: (1910-1940) English fighter pilot of World War II who served with 603 Squadron and participated in the Battle of Britain. A rare D.S., F W Rushmer F/Lt., one page, oblong 8vo, n.p. (RAF Dyce, Aberdeenshire), n.d. (30th July 1940). The partially printed document, originally part of a larger Combat Report, is completed in Rushmer´s hand and relates to the shooting down of an enemy aircraft over East Montrose in Scotland during the Battle of Britain, stating, in part, ´Green Section F/LT RUSHMER (1), P/O BERRY (2) F/O PEASE (3) ordered to patrol Stonehaven at 20,000; advised one E/A 50 miles E. Montrose at 14,000. Section climbed to 17,000 and orbitted 15 miles E. Montrose.....Green 2 & 3 spotted E/A ahead & below. Section went line astern and turned to deliver No.1 attack in waves. E/A dived towards cloud but found insufficient cover. Green 1 attacked below cloud; some return fire experienced: E/A lowered wheels & had streams of smoke issuing from both engines. Green 2 & 3 attacked E/A headed W. in continuous dive. Dropped bombs from about 300 feet and immediately afterwards pancaked on sea, bursting into flames on impact.....No survivors seen´. Autographs of Rushmer are rare in any form as a result of him being killed in action at the young age of 30 on 5th September 1940. VG
