A ROCOCO REVIVAL STYLE CARVED WALNUT PEDESTAL BASE TABLE, POSSIBLY ITALIAN, MID 19TH CENTURY, with a bow front shaped top within molded trim, above conforming sides centering a stylized shell enclosed by a "C" scroll cartouche flanked by scrolling floral foliage in deep relief before a flat back. Height: 18 1/2" Width: 28 3/4" Depth: 22 1/2" NOTE: This pedestal base is obviously an architectural remnant and judging by the slightly bowed back of the top, as well as the faintly darker circular area, it probably was fitted in a wall cartouche and supported a sculpture. Many architectural remnants were removed from various heavily damaged structures after World Wars I & II, and modified by dealers into furniture.
Good condition, normal surface marks and small scratches, old inactive worming, age cracks, small chips. Nice dramatic carving and lovely rich patina.
