Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Bahia culture, ca. 300 to 500 CE. A squat terracotta headrest with a broad rectangular platform and two thick tubular pillars supporting a concave resting surface with incised linear designs. Light-orange in color, this would have provided a comfortable place to rest the head of an individual, either living or deceased. Size: 3.5" H (8.9 cm).

Provenance: ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA, acquired prior to 1970
