An exceptional example, with massive walrus grips of Balkan form, the gilded tangband and bolsters set with corals. The broad, single-edged recurved blade with narrow fuller, inscribed in a silver cartouche, OWNER AHMET AGHA and the year, 1286 (1868/9 c.e.) The scabbard covered entirely with finely embossed and engraved silver in neoclassical motifs, with characteristic dolphin’s head finial. Mid-19th century. Minor repair to finial. Overall length 77cm. Condition II
