A Roman lead sling bullet with the name of Gnaeus Pompeius., c. mid-1st Century BC, who was the son of Pompey the Great. The bullet is of typical biconical shape and is inscribed CN MAG / IMP (for 'Gnaeus Magnus Imperator'). Such sling ballistae have been found in Spain and are generally associated with Pompey's war against Caesar, particularly the Battle of Munda in 45 BC. L: 1 7/8 in (4.8 cm). Well preserved with attractive oxide patination. Ex J.C. private collection, California.
