**First Time At Auction**
Southern Africa, Permian Period, ca. 299 to 251 million years ago. A wonderful pair of ancient fossils with lustrous earthtone hues. First, a large fossilized nautilus shell with a curled, segmented body which widens gradually. The earthen material that has built up inside of the interior cavity displays a couple of smaller shells, and just below that is a small area of vibrant quartz deposits. Next is a large ammonite fossil with a thin body, a wider area for the opening to the interior cavity, and a recessed central portion. Thin ribs while faded are still visible, and evidence of external organic growth, such as sea plants and smaller organisms, are still visible. Size (nautilus): 5.5" H (14 cm); 9.5" H (24.1 cm) on included custom stand; Size (ammonite): 8.5" H (21.6 cm); 12.5" H (31.8 cm) on included custom stand.
