Virginia Sword Belt Plate Buckle found at Winchester

Lot 0015 Details

Description
This Civil War Confederate used buckle was found last year by a female college student attending the university in Winchester, Virginia while she was walking with friends. She gave it to her history buff uncle. The uncle called me and emailed pictures. I told him what it was and made him an offer, and a couple weeks later he agreed. It is a very nice relic sword belt plate bearing the state seal of Virginia. Plate is slightly flattened, and the tongue on the back is bent upwards. Bench number is clearly visible on the back. Has a fine uncleaned patina. Could be from Stonewall Jackson's brigade... or from one of Ashby's cavalrymen, or any of the other famous Johnny Reb units engaged in and around Winchester throughout the war. I found a very damaged example of one of these for sale on the internet today and have clipped a picture of it here for comparison.

Materials, Packing, and UPS Shipping on this item is $15.00. Insurance is $1.50 per hundred. UPS charges $5 for the signature required service. The insurance and signature service are optional, but there can be no insurance for theft or loss without the UPS signature required, service. If you decline signature service and/or insurance and the neighbor kid steals the box off your porch after UPS leaves it . . . or if UPS delivers it to the wrong address, or if the UPS truck crashes and burns . . . You are out of luck. I highly recommend the insurance and signature service. We can also ship this via USPS uninsured for $8.00, but again, this is entirely at the buyer’s risk for loss or damage.
