DESCRIPTION: An Empire ormolu and marble large mantle clock attributed to Pierre-Francois Feuchere, depicts Achilles swearing revenge at the remains of Patroclus. Provenance: Purchased From Sotheby's European Decorative Arts Sale on Oct. 17, 2015 [Lot 948].
Footnote: This model was created by Pierre-François Feuchère in 1807 and one appeared in his 1812 sale as no. 8 and sold for 3,400 francs. An example, formerly in the collection of the duc de Caraman, is illustrated Hans Ottomeyer and Peter Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, vol. 1, Munich, 1986, fig. 5.6.3. A clock of this model using porphyry instead of marble and attributed to Feuchère was sold Christie's London, June 11, 1992, lot 74.
