PHILADELPHIA, Pa. Freeman’s is pleased to present six works by Albert York—five oil paintings and one watercolor—in its June 6 American Art and Pennsylvania Impressionists auction. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Undoubtedly an auction highlight, this selection features both the pastoral scenes for which York is best known, as well as figurative work, including a bold, exquisite portrait of York’s wife, a rare depiction of the subject. Concise and modest, York’s paintings stand out to the viewer with a disarming rawness and purity that convey sentimentality, qualities that have led him to be called the “Painter of the Ordinary.”

NEW YORK – The immortal Jeffrey Lebowski, better known as the Dude from the equally immortal 1998 film The Big Lebowski, was on to something when he observed that a well-chosen rug can really tie a room together. Pick the right textile–and don’t feel like you have to place it on the floor, you can hang it on the wall if you think it looks better that way–and you will elevate everything else in the whole setting. A rug can bring out harmonies in your decor that weren’t nearly as emphatic or pronounced before it entered the scene.

On June 8, Jasper52 will stage a sale of Mid-Century to Modern Rugs, with bids opening at 5 pm Eastern time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers. The auction presents 553 lots’ worth of possibilities. Here are three of the most notable.
