CHICAGO — Demand for Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica-pattern porcelain was high at Hindman‘s August 24 Dining at Home auction, with numerous lots selling well above their estimates.

With a rich history dating to the early 19th century, Royal Copenhagen remains an auction favorite with buyers worldwide. Hindman’s lots came from two Chicago collectors, Marguerite Hark and Barbara D. Greenwood, and did not disappoint.

One of the sale’s top lots was a set of 12 Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica reticulated porcelain dinner plates, selling for $10,000 ($13,000 with buyers premium) against an estimate of $5,000-$10,000. Competitive bidding between the floor and internet kept the action lively.

The next lot was a presale favorite. The Flora Danica monteith with beautiful illustrations all around the dish was estimated at $2,000-$3,000, but ultimately sold to an internet bidder for $6,500 ($8,450 with buyers premium), underscoring its collectibility.

Decorated with Linnaea borealis L., this Flora Danica teapot from the 1992-1999 period of manufacture soared to $3,250 ($4,225 with buyers premium), well above its $1,000-$2,000 estimate.

The chocolate pot with two cups and saucers was another anticipated lot, leapfrogging its estimate of $1,500-$2,500 to land at $3,000 ($3,900 with buyers premium).

Outside of the Flora Danica collection, a set of 12 Gorham silver dinner plates soared above the $4,000-$6,000 estimate, selling for $10,000 ($13,000 with buyers premium).
