although I provided exact and detail instructions as regards the customs procedure, it went wrong and I had to intervene after delivery: the invoice was incorrect and incomplete (no detailed description of the object, only hammer price without premium indicated and the HS tarifff code was not indicated although I told Chait and UPS what to indicate), which caused the payment of the incorrect amount of duties and an appeal had to be made (and as I am a customs officer myself, I pretty well know my business!)

Though not overwhelmingly negative, the interactions with the auction house were not very satisfying, either and would impact the likelihood of buying something with them in the future. The fact that it does not take PayPal or online credit cards, requiring a phone call, and the fact that shipping is done as a separate transaction (rather expensive, too — $34 to ship a small piece of cloth half the length of California) both detracted from the experience, and the buyer's premium was on the high side as well.

They put only 1 picture, difficult for online bidders to examine the items.

They sold me an ancient Roman marble head that was neither ancient nor Roman it was the 19th or 20th century reproduction I'm out almost $2, 500 with shipping and authentication service fees that state the piece is in fact a forgery I'm still waiting to receive my money back from the auction house I was told at the time of payment that it had been inspected by someone from a museum I request of the name of the person on the phone as well as a subsequent email and still have yet to ever receive it I'm starting to believe that that was not a true statement. This was a $22, 500 piece of art.

Item was fragile ancient pottery figure and was carefully packed and boxed for safe shipment by the auction house. The figure arrived safely from a long distance and I was impressed. After the auction there was follow-up with the auction house giving me a special number to make future auction participation more efficient.

The chairs I bought were better then I thought, cleaner and in excellent condition, description and photography excellent, would buy from again.

Packing of art was very, very well done; very professional.

The most important is that the describtion should be correct, the auction house need to have good knowledge and experience in the field, and have good knowledge about the items it sell. The opinion is for all the auction houses.

there was shipping costs and other costs for international shipping I was not aware until I had comitted. With the low canadian dollar it was not a good deal. Probably will not join any auction from U. S. at least till canadian dollar gains strength and shipping fees become more reasonable.

Every person I dealt with by phone and by email after this auction was polite and helpful and responded quickly. The way their shipping department packaged my item was second to none! I was very impressed with the service they provide and look forward to doing business with them again.
