I knew the collection by knowing the collector and wonderful things they have but that’s rarely the case, I purchased items from other houses that hide defects and damages and post “AS IS” be mindful of those auction houses, Material Culture has wonderful items and I have not been disappointed.

I have purchased from Material Culture a few times and I have always enjoyed the process and the experience. They are very accurate in their descriptions and they answer all questions quickly and clearly. My family lives near Philadelphia so family members have picked up for me. Whenever I am in Philadelphia, I like to stop by their showroom and browse (before these current virus days). They have an incredible facility full of beautiful treasures from around the globe! I hope I am able to browse again some time soon. Thank you for continuing to sell pieces of high quality to the global market.

The photos are more than adequate, the descriptions accurate, and the staff has always been professional and very responsive to questions or requests for condition reports. Shipping is normally been easy to arrange (I use Philadelphia Mail Room), pricing reasonable, items packed well, and I've never had any issues receiving the items I've purchased. Material Culture is so easy to interact and deal with. I've had several auction experiences with them and all have been good. I generally like the items featured in their auctions. They tend to be very interesting: global, exotic and eclectic. Great fun to look at, very similar to wandering a flea/antique market, giving you a taste of the larger planet and its diverse cultures.

The buyers premium is excessive-yes I know the other major auction houses are comparable and theirs are excessive as well. It significantly limits the amount that I will bid on an item.

material culture is one of the few trustworthy auction houses. Item bought was a rug dated around 1920 to 1930. It was from tibet and age shows it to be made for export and quality and condition were as stated will buy again.

Very nice lot of uncommon Borneo beadwork. Other lots were tempting. Glad I read reviews online and went with US Mailroom for the shipping. Sean was great, and everything worked well and speedily.
