With this auction you have to trust contacting a third party for shipping. Pricing is all over the map from 4 people quoting the freight. I chose UPS 3871 as they had the best price, unfortunately I did not get what I quoted from them, individually packaged so there was no damage in shipping, I got bulk packed but was decently enough packed. I got a call from ups saying Tremont did not give them an 8 book lot when they picked up. Tremont was good enough to send me the books separately but I had to pay 148.00 in brokerage fees on top of the 210.00 for the books being shipped by UPS. So after insurance on the books, freight costs, and brokerage fees I was $650.00 in getting my books from the auction house to Canada. Not sure my business will be going across the border for awhile. Tremont did not respond to me asking for half the brokerage fee split seeing they caused me an extra $140.00 in fees. Oh well!

Let me preface this review with this: The auction house itself is fine and probably rates 4 or 5 stars, but their recommended shipper is a complete and utter ripoff artist. The default store the house uses is UPS Store # 1152. The item I purchased from the auction was a painting, measuring 40 "x32" overall. I ship paintings regularly and to ship the same thing would cost me around $200, probably a little less. They quoted me $400 for the same thing before taxes. Outlandish! Called the auction house and they helped find an alternative shipper. They recommended another UPS store, Store # 0286. Their quote was $279. They made a little money but that amount is reasonable. I strongly recommend contacting these guys instead of the ripoff artists recommended by the auction house. Again, the auction house was just fine but they've got a shipper who thinks he's got a captive audience. Be forewarned. Get shipping quotes before you even think about bidding!

This auction house sold 3 works with significant water damage. This damage should be hidden by simply cutting off 2 cm at the lower edges. So they made the works worthless. This auction house declines any liability, so that lawyers must now be involved.

Tremont runs a fantastic auction, as to be expected with such a bold and illustrious name running the scene for the New England area. Insanely helpful customer service and assistance with all related logistics for shipping and payment-and could not have had a more professional and extremely helpful correspondence back and forth with Cameron. He's tops! Great place, and even greater people. Don't be afraid to dive in deep to the treasures offered here on hand; they're quality, and worth your time.

They are DECEITFUL in presentation. The woman who works there has no business dealing with the public, EXTREMELY RUDE and ABUSIVE over the phone. I bought a violin that looked "good" in their pictures. After receiving it I realized that it was piece of junk. Poorly repaired and non of these defects were shown in the photographs. Now refusing to take back the item. I have stopped payment thru my credit card company. I will never do business with them, there are a lot of great auction houses around. Think twice before doing business with them.

Tremont Auctions does not offer in-house shipping and their recommended shipper is very expensive. I was charged $50 for a small 8 by 10 inch box. Tremont charges a 27 % buyers premium and then farms out their shipping. Internet customers deserve better treatment. I will only shop auction houses that offer in-house shipping from now on.

I was pleased with auction item, however the process of releasing to shipper was not an easy one. I saw complaints by others in this regard. Though the process was somewhat difficult I was basically pleased with my auction item.

Tremont is an excellent auction service-items are described accurately & photos well done. After auction service (invoicing, payment processing, shipping coordination & answers to inquiries are all well done. Highly recommend.
