Joseph is a discerning collector who bought a Koson Crow print from our last sale. He describes it as "severely trimmed," specifically along the right edge. Full-sized, uncut mitsuguri-ban sheets from this publisher (c. 1912) come in a standard format, with a width of 7 1/2 inches. The print he purchased has a width of 7 1/2 inches. He also expressed concern about the uneven quality of the cut of the right margin, i. e., that the line is not straight. This, however, is not the type of condition problem that we would normally describe in our condition report, which I guess is his point. He graciously has refrained from asking to return the purchase, despite his dissatisfaction, and uses his experience as a "buyer beware" teachable moment through this review. We agree with him that the best protection against unhappy surprises is to ask questions in advance, but don't think this case is the best example of how badly things can go wrong.
