Getting rich from shipping
I won a small item for $17, and paid immediately, then they hit me with a $22.73 shipping charge! It would have taken $5 to ship this, so I asked them to lower it ND he said no. I said you're trying to get rich from shipping and he said yes I am! He said he had to make up money somewhere! I said maybe you shouldn't be in the auction business but in the shipping business since you admit to trying to get rich from shipping. He charged me $7 for a box! I would never do this to my customers. Hey you didn't make enough from the auction start the bidding higher or something. I had to pay it since I needed inventory, because they had me over a barrel either pay the shipping, or forfeit the item. Never bidding on theie auctions again.

I am sorry to hear this. As per the conversation on the phone those words have been taken out if context. But I did explain how we brought these items back from New Jersey to Pennsylvania to ship. But yes we do charge for shipping and handling of the packages. Boxes and Packing material is also not free. And as I clearly stated to you, we offer quotes prior to the Auction as Stated in our terms and Conditions. But per our last conversation I was going to reduce your shipping cost a bit to offer as a gesture. Rather than except that you paid for it and then left this review. I am sorry you are not happy but this could have been avoided if you had just read the terms.

A real auction, with no theatrics and quick closings.
My first time with Hartzell's, and I was really impressed. With more than 5 decades of dealings with auction houses from coast to coast, I can't think of any that I would rate higher in terms of providing a great experience for bidders.

Professional and efficient
Hartzell's Auctions are always professionally conducted and efficiently handled. Bills are fast. Shipping and handling are billed economical, and the packaging is superb.

I got this auction lot as a gift for a friend. Auction house shipped it well, friend received it, and was very happy. Can't ask for more than that. I actually * have * bought again from this auction house, since.

My Experience w/Hartzell’s Auction
I have been dealing with Hartzell’s Auction for many years. At the gallery and online. I miss the gallery auctions, but Covid has changed that and we will have accept the new format. As far as the auction itself; the employees are knowledgeable and cooperative, the online photos are clear and adequate, and the merchandise is high in quality. Overall I would rate Hartzell Auction as top of the line.

Responsive Auction House
I had a great experience with Hartzell’s auction house with good communication. I purchased a small item through Hartzell’s. Prior to purchase I emailed the auction house and asked for a shipping quote. The quote came back, and it was a fair quote. Upon winning the auction I paid immediately for my item and then received a shipping invoice. The shipping cost quoted was substantially higher than the original email estimate. I immediately reached out to John at the Auction House, and he held to the original quote and resent the shipping invoice. I paid for it and had my item within 3 days. All in all this was a good experience with Hartzell’s. I look forward to bidding in future auctions. A good rule, follow the auction house suggestions, ask for shipping quotes ahead of time.

AVOID! Sloppy packing, they ship items so badly broken they should be discardeded
Dreadful experience with this auction house. First, packing is sloppy, two small egg cups arrived that had been wrapped together with no packing in between them, of course they shattered. Second, extent of damage to other items was not disclosed; an ABCG decanter had numerous chips around the top surface so that it could not be used. Very old "early" candlestick was shipped that was so broken you could not handle it without cutting yourself. It should have been discarded, not sold under any circumstances, even as part of a miscellaneous assortment. Lastly, I did reach out to Hartzell's about the first issue, received a brush-off response that someone would get back to me, but no one ever did. They absolutely did not care. As for their practice of shipping hazardous broken items, they should clean up their act or someone will end up suing them.

We have been family-owned and operated for 80 years and have shipped out hundreds, if not thousands of items to satisfied customers. The four box lots of glass you purchased contained over 25 individual items. We do our best to point out any pertinent defects. It is the buyer's responsibility to contact us for additional condition reports or photos which we are always happy to give in a timely manner. We treat all items with the same care and respect, whether they are $5 or $5000. The early candlestick you referred to (that was already broken) is still collected by advanced collectors as a reference item. Had you not wanted all the items shipped, you should have contacted the shipping department and we would have gladly accommodated your needs. Also, any damage that occurs in shipping, it is noted the buyer is to contact Shipping Saint in a timely manner to file a claim. Again, we are genuinely sorry that you were so unhappy with your items and our service.

Unusual shipping arrangements were done as requested
I requested one item to be sent registered mail and the remaining to be sent by UPS. They accommodated the request in timely manner and packages arrived with items very, very packed and protected.
