BOMBSHELL: RAQUEL WELCH

Join us as we celebrate the amazing accomplishments of one of Hollywood’s enduring style icons by offering more than 450 unique personally-owned items that have never been available to the public before. The sale includes fashion items, jewelry, scripts, awards, personal items, a Mercedes-Benz and home furnishings from the estate of Raquel Welch. Following a string of popular films in the mid-1960s, Raquel Welch emerged as the greatest sex symbol of her era and one of the most photographed and talked-about women of the 20th century. She became an instant superstar with her appearance as a fur bikini-clad cavewoman in the 1966 prehistoric epic One Million Years B.C. and we are excited to offer Welch’s own custom-made version of this career-making costume that she wore on television and in her stage act. Suddenly in demand as a leading lady and eager to prove her range as an actress, Welch starred alongside top leading men of the day, such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Peter Sellers in a variety of major studio productions. In 1970, she challenged expectations and became a pioneering ally to the LGBT community with the title role of a transgender woman in the cult classic Myra Breckinridge. Welch, again, commissioned a custom-made version of her famous red, white, and blue sequined swimsuit for her stage act, which will also, be offered. The next two decades witnessed Welch stretch further as an actress with her comic performance in 1974’s The Three Musketeers, for which she won the Golden Globe Award for best actress in a musical or comedy. The auction will include her award, nomination certificate, a framed still from the film which was displayed in Welch’s home, and her personally-owned copy of the film on DVD.
