July 2024: Premier Selections
DuMouchelles
DuMouchelles is pleased to present its July 2024: Premier Selections auction on July 19th, offering an exceptional array of fine art, decorative objects, Mid-Century Modern (MCM) furniture, and antiques from notable estates and collections.
One of the standout lots is the "Paoletti Impronte, (Rome) Grand Tour Intaglios, Plaster Medallions, 12 Volumes, Ca. 1840," which includes 369 plaster medallions representing ancient cameos, coins, and sculptures, meticulously cataloged and presented in 12 volumes. These intaglios, manufactured by the Paoletti family, are a testament to 19th-century craftsmanship and scholarship, originating from the Estate of Prominent Collector Leon Zielinski, Macomb County, MI.
The fine art category is highlighted by significant works such as Wenzel Ulrik Tornoe's (Danish, 1844-1907) oil painting "The George R. Rich Family," a large-scale depiction of a family gathering, with provenance from a prominent Grosse Pointe Park, MI collector. Another noteworthy piece is Lydia Field Emmet's (American, 1866-1952) "Portrait of Lowrie Sage," an exquisite example of early 20th-century American portraiture, also from the Grosse Pointe Park, MI collection.
In addition, the sale includes an impressive selection of Mid-Century Modern (MCM) furniture, such as an Eames folding screen, a George Nelson & Associates wall clock, ‘Margaret’ Birch Settees, and a Giandomenico Belotti ‘Spaghetti’ dining table and chairs, amongst other iconic designs that exemplify the sleek and innovative characteristics of the MCM aesthetic. The auction's print category is also noteworthy, featuring volumes of works by artists such as Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Ben Shahn, Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall, and others.
The sale also includes a significant number of sterling silver flatware sets, such as the Wallace Silversmiths "Rose Point" Sterling Silver Flatware and the Gorham "Plymouth" Pattern Sterling Silver Flatware Service.
